چکیده

Mineralogical phases of steelmaking slags have significant influences on the carbonation of the slags. In this paper, the effects of temperature and reaction time on the conversion of calcium-related phases and the carbonation degree of a slag sample were studied. The experimental conditions were a liquid-to-solid ratio of 20 mL/g, a carbon dioxide flow rate of 1 L/min and a slag particle size of 38–75 μm. The results show that the optimum carbonation temperature and reaction time are 60 ̋C and 90 min, respectively, and calcite phase content is about 26.78% while the conversion rates of Ca3Al2O6, CaSiO3, Ca2SiO4 and free CaO are about 40%, 42.46%, 51% and 100%, respectively, and the carbon dioxide sequestration efficiency is about 170 g/kg slag.

Laboratory Scale Experiments on the Production of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate from Steelmaking Slag via Spray Carbonation

This study investigates a new concept of producing precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) from steelmaking slag and carbon dioxide via a spray carbonation process. The presented laboratory-scale spray carbonation test reactor uses a spray nozzle to disperse fine droplets of a Ca-rich solution into a spray tower, where calcium carbonate precipitates as a result of the reaction between calcium and ...

Recovery of calcium carbonate from steelmaking slag and utilization for acid mine drainage pre-treatment.

The conversion of steelmaking slag (a waste product of the steelmaking process) to calcium carbonate (CaCO(3)) was tested using hydrochloric acid, ammonium hydroxide and carbon dioxide via a pH-swing process. Batch reactors were used to assess the technical feasibility of calcium carbonate recovery and its use for pre-treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD) from coal mines. The effects of key pro...

Production and Crystallization Behavior of an Iron Rich Glass–Ceramic Prepared by Ironmaking and Steelmaking Wastes

Using wastes as starting raw materials is a common method to reduce the production costs and the environmental pollution problems arising from such wastes. In this study the production and crystallization behavior of an iron rich glass prepared by iron and steel making wastes has been investigated. The raw materials used, were the blast furnace slag, the blast furnace dust, converter slag and s...

Comparison of Magnesium Oxide Extraction from Victorian Brown Coal Fly Ash and Steel Making Slag Using Regenerative Ammonium Chloride

In this study, the treatment of fly ash and steel making slag in aqueous ammonia chloride has been conducted. These zero-value wastes have distinctively high concentrations of magnesium, calcium and iron. The ammonium chloride has been employed as the leaching reagent to extract MgO out of fly ash and slag, and the dissolved cations in the leachate were subsequently precipitated by carbonation....

Investigations of Calcium Aluminate Slag Penetration to MgO Monolithic Refractories in Steelmaking Process

In this study, slag penetration into a magnesia refractory monolithic was investigated by the crucible test method. A synthetic calcium aluminate slag system has been used to study commercial magnesia mix refractory for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 hours at 1450°C and 1600°C. It has been shown that the penetration rate is controlled by a diffusion mechanism at 1450°C. In this case, capillaries are the ...
